Petitions Debate on the 14th September 4.30pm to “Hold a referendum to bring the water industry into public ownership” in Westminster Hall. We have secured circa 190,000 signatures. This debate is open to the public to attend on a first come basis. Given the numbers wanting to attend we are running a rota for the public seats - do get in touch if you want to attend. This will be an in person briefing from industry experts to support MP's scrutiny of the options for public ownership of water. Provided by The People's Commission on the Water Sector. Speakers include Feargal Sharkey, Ash Smith, Prof Becky Malby, Prof Ewan McGaughey.

Monday 7th September from 14:00 – 16:00 in Room C, 1 Parliament Street.
Following a summer of droughts, the impending special administration of Thames Water, and widespread public opposition to privatised water companies, major reforms to the water sector needs to be firmly on Andy Burnham’s agenda. In the early weeks of his premiership, a number of proposals have been talked up. However, as the Sewage Campaign Network have set out, only public ownership will ensure a clean break from the commercialisation of water that has led to this crisis.
We believe that proposed government reforms to regulation show that water company owners are being favoured over the public, and this is not right in a democracy. A referendum would give the public back its voice about its water.
Campaigners will be briefing MPs from all parties on the public's view about what they want now to secure cleaner, cheaper and fairer water services, now and for the future – and what needs to happen now to give the public a democratic say on the future for water.

A short online seminar with grassroots campaigners for anyone outraged by the state of their river, and wanting to set up a local campaign.
WORLD WATER DAY 2026
To celebrate and make the public’s outrage visible, local groups are holding events in their communities including processions, wild swims, story telling and library events to highlight the failings of the White Paper and what needs to happen now. With no say in how the government is responding to our water crisis, this is our moment to reaffirm our stake in the future of water.
CAMPAIGN DAY AT WESTMINSTER
On the 17th March we are asking campaign groups to join us in Westminster demonstrate the public outrage at privatisation for profit, and to stop the Water Bill.
